JIPMER has revised the PhD admission guidelines, including revisions in eligibility criteria, in order to improve the admission process for research scholars at the institute.

JIPMER PhD Revised Criteria 2025

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) has revised the PhD admission criteria for the candidates seeking admission to doctoral programme at the institute. The institute has shared amendments in the JIPMER PhD admission guidelines already released in the year 2020. The ammendments are applicable immediately and exemption and eligibility criteria have been drafted based on JIPMER faculty.

Entrance Exam Exemption for In-Service Candidates

The amendments concerning In-service candidates have been released by the authorities based on the request from the JIPMER faculty and include the following amendments:

  • To encourage faculty involvement in research, candidates in service who apply for part-time PhD programs are excluded from the entrance exam.
  • Non-faculty staff must pass the admission exam for their particular disciplines.

Amendment No.2, based on the request from the JIPMER faculty, states the following:-

  • According to the new 2020 PhD standards, a guide must have a PhD or postgraduate degree and at least three years of postdoctoral teaching or research expertise as an Associate Professor at JIPMER.
  • According to UGC criteria, professors with a PhD degree and at least 5 years of postdoctoral research or teaching experience as Assistant Professors are also qualified to mentor PhD students.
  • To encourage more PhD admissions, JIPMER will increase the number of eligible guides based on this benchmark.

  • According to the 2020 PhD requirements, a guide should have at least five original research papers, three of which must have been published within the past three years.
Assistant Professors with a PhD must have at least three research papers in peer-reviewed or refereed journals to be considered guides.
