Karnataka Medical Colleges to Face Consequences for Illegally Overcharging Students; KEA Issues Warning
Karnataka's Admission Overseeing Committee warns Karnataka medical colleges against charging illegitimate university and caution fees from UG and PG medical students. Affected parents and candidates can file official complaints at the KEA building at 18th Cross Road, Sampige Road, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru and file their complaint.
Karnataka's Admission Overseeing Committee has issued a warning to medical colleges in the state overcharging fees from undergraduate and postgraduate students. As per the notice, the board has asked students to submit an official complaint to KEA in case they are affected. According to Committee Chairman Justice Ramachandra D. Huddar, multiple complaints have revealed that several medical institutions in Karnataka are violating the agreement signed with the state government regarding standardised medical education fee in the state.
A major issue involves colleges demanding university fees directly from students at the time of admission. NEET or NEET PG students have raised their concerns during Karnataka NEET counselling process. The committee clarified that these fees are already collected by Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) during the seat allotment process and are directly remitted to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). Forcing students to pay admission fee twice is unethical.

KEA Opens Complaint Portal for Affected Students
Board has noticed that some colleges are demanding caution money and unauthorised college fees. Under the current state agreement, medical colleges are strictly permitted to collect only INR 30,000 Skill Lab fee and an INR 15,000 miscellaneous fee in addition to the base tuition. Any charges more than these amounts are not justified.
Justice Huddar has urged colleges to remain alert and immediately stop these unauthorised practices. He has also advised candidates and parents to step forward and file formal complaints to get their money back. Impacted students can submit their grievances to the Admission Monitoring Committee office at KEA Building, 18th Cross Road, Sampige Road, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.
