MBBS Abroad Warning: NMC has cautioned students against taking admission in 4 foreign medical colleges in Belize and Uzbekistan, stating they don't meet eligibility norms. MBBS aspirants are advised to verify colleges on the NMC-approved list of medical colleges before applying abroad.

National Medical Commission

The Undergraduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) of the National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an advisory for Indian medical students seeking MBBS abroad and other undergraduate medical courses in several institutions in Belize and Uzbekistan. As per the official notice, the Apex Medical Commission has listed down four medical colleges including (i) Central American Health and Sciences University, Belize, (ii) Columbus Central University, Belize, (iii) Washington University of Health and Sciences, Belize, and (iv) Chirchik Branch of Tashkent State Medical University, Uzbekistan and detained them for not inelgible for admisisons.

This development follows reports from the Indian Embassy in Mexico and the Ministry of External Affairs' Eurasia Division, which raised significant concerns about these four medical institutions. The issues flagged include non-compliance with Indian medical education standards, inadequate or missing campus infrastructure, substandard teaching and clinical training, incidents of student harassment, overcharging of fees, and refusal to issue refunds when students withdraw from the course, as reported by Medical Dialogues.

"Despite these advisories, it has been observed that Indian students continue to seek admission to foreign medical institutions which do not meet the required standards prescribed under FMGL Regulations, 2021," noted the Commission.

The NMC clearly alerted students that any discrepancies related to the course duration, medium of instruction, syllabus and curriculum, clinical training, or internship/clerkship structure could lead to disqualification from medical registration in India. Hence, students must ensure that they take admissions only after verification of the medical colleges abroad.
