MBBS admission: Medical aspirants demand stricter checking system
There is an urgent need to strengthen the checking system said Former health minister and senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur.
In wake of the Atal Medical Research University (AMRU), Mandi incident where a student forged documents to get MBBS admission, now the medical aspirant and Former health minister and senior Congress leader Kaul Singh Thakur are demanding a stricter checking system to prevent such incidents.
Kaul Singh Thakur said “it is very unfortunate that students were using such illegal tactics to secure admission in MBBS courses in medical colleges. It is also a big failure on the part of the university concerned and college authorities, which could not detect such cases at the initial stage. There is an urgent need to strengthen the checking system,” as reported by Tribune India.
The Background
This year, two such cases came to light - one in AMRU Mandi where the accused, Kartik Sharma was allotted a seat at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla by Mandi's Atal Medical Research University on November 3 last year and later NMC found a mismatch in information while checking the documents on the website.
On investigation, it was found that he had forged documents of a female candidate with high merit and replaced her name and photograph with his to sit in the counselling. Another incident was at the medical college Chamba.
Last year also one such case was reported in Tanda Medical College in Kangra district, where a student had produced forged documents to secure admission to an MBBS course.
Recently, three people were arrested in Noida where they cheated crores of rupees from medical aspirants by promising them admission to reputed government medical colleges.
