Medical Seats in India to Increase by 75,000 in Next 5 Years: Health Minister Nadda
Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the expansion of medical seats in India by 75,000 during the 15th convocation of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research.
New Medical Seats in India: In a significant development for medical education in India, Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda announced that the government is aiming to increase medical seats for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes by 75,000 across the country in the next five years. The minister also highlighted the achievements of the government over the past decade, including a 130% increase in UG medical seats (from 45,000 to 1.2 Lakh) and a 138% increase in PG medical seats across the country.
The announcement to increase medical seats in India was made by the Union Minister during the 15th Convocation of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER). The minister adderessed the students of the institute and also highlighted the aim of government regarding medical education saying "the focus of India's national health policy is to develop a holistic health care system, which not only focuses curative part in health care but also emphasises on the preventive care, palliative care, rehabilitative care, geriatric care and promotional health care".
Minister Nadda encouraged the efforts of the students and congratulated their parents, teachers, and the entire KLE team for their assistance. He urged the young medical students to remain conscious of societal concerns and to learn about the country's health policies. He further highlighted that prior health programs were primarily concerned with treating major ailments in hospitals, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
He further mentioned that the healthcare system is a very important part of society. The government is promoting preventive healthcare, and mass screening of every individual over the age of 30 years will be conducted across the country shortly.
