NEET 2025 to be Conducted in Paper-Pencil Mode in Single Day and Shift

NEET 2025 will be conducted in a paper-pencil-based test (PBT) mode in a single day and shift, NTA has confirmed through a notification. This ends the speculation about conducting NEET 2025 in online mode or in multiple phases.

NTA has stated, “As decided by the National Medical Commission, it is informed that the NEET (UG) 2025 shall be conducted in Pen and Paper mode (OMR based) in Single day and Single Shift.”

The NTA Expert Committee headed by former ISRO chief K. Radhakrishnan had recommended the conduct of NEET 2025 in a computer-based mode and in multiple phases. However, despite the Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan indicating the change in the exam mode and introducing multiple phases, these will not be implemented.

NTA has not yet announced the NEET 2025 exam date. In an earlier notification, it had stated that the NEET 2025 registration process will commence in due course of time, which is expected to begin by February or the first week of March 2025.

Over 50% Shiksha Users Prefer to Write NEET in Offline Mode

In a recent poll run on Shiksha.com, over 50 per cent of users have voted in favour of appearing for NEET 2025 in paper-pencil-based mode. Take a look at the poll snapshot below

The confirmation on NEET 2025 to be conducted in its usual mode and pattern would bring a sigh of relief to these aspirants as they don’t have to get accustomed to a new mode of exam or practice taking online mock tests.

On the other hand, this also indicates that the threat of paper leak and other malpractices which marred the NEET exam last year will continue to persist this year as well.

NTA had earlier announced the implementation of the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID for the registration and examination process, and the mandate to use the Aadhaar Number while filling the NEET 2025 application process to make the system more transparent and efficient.
