NBEMS Stance on the Controversy of Reducing Cutoffs
Centre stated to the SC that the lowering cutoff is not going to affect the quality of education as the candidates applying for the NEET PG are already doctors. They are licensed MBBS degree holders. Such candidates will not dilute the standards of education. Rather after the Round-2 counselling some 31,742 All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 9,621 were left vacant. Lowering the cutoff made some 1,00,054 candidates eligible to participate in Round-3.
Center sighted that the reduction in the cutoff is aimed at securing the seat wastage at the PG-level counselling and to strengthen the healthcare system.

The NEET PG government colleges offer admission with an admission fee range of INR 8,000 to INR 30,000. While the private college charges INR 95 lakhs and INR 1.5 crores for admission to PG-level courses. This restricts the admission capacity for several candidates who have potential but cannot afford the expensive admission fee.
In this light, the fee fixation rules were highlighted wherein NMC has directed the private colleges not to keep admission fee more than 50 per cent of the fee charged by the government colleges. This pointed out that private colleges are violating the admission fee capping rules.
