NEET PG 2025 cutoffs were lowered in light of seat that were left vacant after the second round of counselling. The qualifying criteria was diluted to 0 percentile and for some reserved categories, it was also reduced further. The case will be taken up for hearing on February 13, 2026. The decision of NBEMS was challenged after they released a notification on January 13, 2026 regarding the cutoff reduction.

All About the PIL Hearing on NEET PG 2025 Cutoff Reduction

The petition has been filed under Article 32 of the Constitution. The Supreme Court will take up the hearing that challenges the decision of NBEMS. The cut-off for all categories was brought down to zero percentiles. The alarming part is that the candidates scoring -40 marks stand eligible for a post-graduation seat in the premier medical institutes.

Why Lowering Cutoff is an Unwelcome Move?

As some 18000 seats were vacant after the NEET PG Round-2 counselling conducted by MCC, the cutoffs were lowered to motivate candidates to apply for the seats. However, this decision invited rising concerns over the merit-based selection and the quality of medical education which is expected to remain at a higher pedestal.

NBEMS is not expected to make such moves as the patient care and safety will be at stake in the future. The minimum quality standards should be met when it comes to seat allocation to maintain academic standards in the nation.
