NEET PG Counselling 2024: Students Challenge PwD Seat Conversion to General Category; HC Questions MCC
A group of PwD students have filed a complaint seeking the High Court's intervention to preserve NEET PG 2024 PwD quota seats till the completion of the stray vacancy round instead of converting them to general category seats.
Delhi High Court has asked the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the Union of India to submit their response to a plea opposing the conversion of PwD postgraduate medical seats into general category seats for the NEET PG 2024 round 3 counselling process.
Reportedly, a group of PwD (persons with benchmark disabilities) students have filed a complaint seeking the high court's intervention to secure PwD quota seats and refrain from its conversion to general quota seats to fill vacant positions for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET-PG) counselling 2024. They were represented by their counsels Rohit Singh and Mahendra Kumavat, as reported by Medical Dialogues.
NEET PG Counselling 2024: Reason for Vacant PwD Seats
The petitioner contended that the majority of PwD seats are lying vacant due to the non-availability of qualified candidates in the PwD category. The Central Government has not relaxed the minimum cutoff criteria for NEET PG counselling despite a large number of seats lying vacant in the PG medical courses in AIQ/ state quota seats.
Consequently, the candidates argued that if the Central Government decided to reduce the minimum cutoff percentile after the NEET PG round 3 counselling process and PwD seats be shifted to general category seats, then PwD candidates would not be able to get the benefits of the relaxation of minimum percentile.
The High Court agreed to this matter and issued a notice to MCC and the Central government for their response. The court has asked the authorities to file their reply before the next date of hearing.
