More than 95% of the candidates who registered for NEET 2021 appeared for the exam on Sunday.

As per the NTA (National Testing Agency) officials, more than 95 percent of the registered candidates of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 appeared for the medical entrance exam on September 12 at over 3,800 centres across the country.

Last year, over 85% of the registered candidates had appeared for NEET-UG 2020, which was held in September.
Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year witnessed the registration of a record number of candidates. In 2021, over 16 lakh candidates registered for the NEET-UG 2021.
Similar to last year, the NEET examination was held while following all the necessary Covid-19 protocols such as candidates were following the social distancing, wearing masks and using alcohol-based hand sanitisers.

Last year the exam was conducted on September 13 and nearly 13.66 lakh candidates had appeared in NEET 2020 and a total of 7,71,500 qualified the exam.
This year as well, a section of NEET aspirants were demanding to postpone the examination to October. However, after the Supreme Court of India dismissed students' plea regarding this demand, the NTA (National Testing Agency) went ahead and conducted the examination. The paper pattern was changed and the examination was conducted in 13 languages including Engish, Hindi, Punjabi, Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Tamil, Urdu, Odia, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, and Telugu.
For the first time, NEET also had international centres in Dubai and Kuwait.
