NMC dissociates from Dr B C Roy National Award and two more medical awards
National Medical Commission has dissociated from B C Roy National Award, Silver Jubilee National Award, and Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research Award.
National Medical Commission (NMC) has announced disassociation from Dr BC Roy National Award, Silver Jubilee Research Award and Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research Award and the societies associated with these awards.
NMC's notification reads, "I am directed to inform that subsequent to the discussions taken in the senior office’s meeting, chaired by the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, on 26th September 2022, and the discussions held in the meeting chaired by Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare on 7th October, 2022, it has been decided that the National Medical Commission will no longer be associated with the following awards and societies associated with these awards - (i) Dr. B.C. Roy National Award, (ii) Silver Jubilee Research Award, and (iii) Hari Om Ashram Alembic Research Award.”
About BC Roy National Award Fund
The Medical Council of India instituted B C Roy National Award Fund in 1962 to perpetuate his memory. “The Fund” is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860. “The Fund” invites nominations under the following categories as provided under the Memorandum of Association of the Society. The Award is of the value of INR 1,00,000 and a Silver Salver in each of the following categories- Statesmanship of the Highest Order in our country, Medical man-cum-Statesman,
Eminent Medical Person, Eminent person in Philosophy, and Eminent person in Arts.
Dr Rohan Krishnan, National President of FAIMA India tweeted, "Its sad that the contributions of Dr B C Roy is not being honoured by NMC_IND & the contributions of doctors are not being acknowledged by @MoHFW_INDIA. This is very sad that this highest order of award of medical research and excellence given by President is been withdrawn!"
