At present, all private/ government medical colleges in India are marking attendance through Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attendance System that is planned to be replaced with the Face-based Aadhar authentication system.

National Medical Commission (NMC) has introduced face-based Aadhaar authentication system in order to streamline attendance and levarage biometric technology in all private/ government medical colleges across the country. Reportedly, facial recognition-based authentication system will be implemented from May 1, 2025. At present, all medical colleges in the country marks attendance through the Aadhar Enabled Biometric Attendance System. 

With the help of facial recognition-based authentication system, the authorities aim to offer user friendly, quick and easy attendance marking process for all fraternity. FACE-based Aadhaar authentication, which has previously been introduced in other government offices via NIC, will soon be adopted throughout medical facilities using a mobile app-based interface, as reported by Medical Dialogues. 

“All Medical Colleges/ Institutions under the National Medical Commission (NMC) are presently marking attendance through the NMC AEBAS system. To leverage the latest technology and to make the attendance process user-friendly, NMC has decided to fully shift to Face-based Aadhaar authentication for marking attendance on NMC AEBAS from May 1, 2025. The FACE-based Aadhaar authentication with UIDAI RD is currently in use in various Government Offices through NIC,” the official NMC notice reads.

As per the official notice, medical colleges are required to share the GPS coordinates of specific attendance within their campus with NMC by April 20, which will enable geofenced attendance marking via mobile phones. The information is required to be submitted with official signature and stamp of the college dean or principal.
