The college will have 100 MBBS seats and will start academic function from the academic session 2023-24.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has given its approval to the newly constructed Government Medical College (GMC) at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi, Odisha. The college will function from Kalahandi University.

The college will have 100 MBBS seats and will start academic function from the academic session 2023-24. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan shared the information and wrote on Twitter: Gratitude to PM Shri @narendramodi ji and Shri @mansukhmandviya ji for the approval to establish a new Government Medical College under @Kalahandi_univ in Bhawanipatna with 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2023-24.”

Odisha Health and Family Welfare Secretary Shalini Pandit said this could be possible because of the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. She said that the institution would fulfil the long-standing aspirations of the people of Odisha. The College will have a 100 intake capacity in MBBS from the academic session 2023-24 following the approval of the NMC.

The Kalahandi Government Medical College and Hospital (MCH) located at Bhangabari in Bhawanipatna has been constructed at an investment of over Rs 200 crore.

“This decision is a testament to #ModiGovt's commitment to improve the healthcare infrastructure in the country, enhance healthcare delivery at the grassroots and make quality medical education within the reach of everyone, including in Odisha,” writes Pradhan.
