Tamil Nadu to Add 500 PG Medical Seats; Plans to Upgrade Primary Health Centres in Rural Areas

Tamil Nadu' Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Ma Subramanian, announced the introduction of dialysis facilities at 50 upgraded primary health centres in rural areas in order to upgrade the healthcare infrastructure of the state.
Tamil Nadu's Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ma Subramanian, announced the approval of 500 additional postgraduate (PG) medical seats at the state's 13 government medical colleges for significant development intended to strengthen Tamil Nadu's medical education and public health infrastructure. The increase in postgraduate medical seats in the state will enable students to get seats through the state quota for PG medical admission.
The Minister stated in the Legislative Assembly that these additional seats will be allocated to government medical colleges in Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Nilgiris, Namakkal, Nagapattinam, Krishnagiri, Ariyalur, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Pudukkottai, and Karur, as well as the Kalaignar Centenary Super Speciality Hospital.
Furthermore, the Minister introduced an innovative effort to provide dialysis services at 50 improved Primary Health Centres in rural areas, with significant support from private partners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), making crucial kidney treatment available to underserved populations, as reported by DTNext.
Healthcare for All: Minister Unveils Inclusive Public Health Initiatives under Dravidian Model
The minister also unveiled a variety of comprehensive public health initiatives concentrated at enhancing medical services, preventive care, infrastructure, and awareness-raising, including support for HIV/AIDS-affected children, organ donation awareness, nutritional assistance, wellness efforts, and improved access to testing, diagnosis, and treatment across a variety of health indicators.
The Health Minister emphasised the Dravidian Model government's commitment to improving healthcare delivery at all levels and ensuring equal access to medical services for all segments of the population.
