Telangana Doctors demand timely release of stipends

As per reports, the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) has approached the director of medical education Dr. B. Triveni regarding the release of pending stipend amounts.

The Association has alleged that the stipends of first-year postgraduate students have been pending since September while others including senior resident doctors are yet to receive their December stipend, as reported by Deccan Herald.

Dr C. Karshini from Osmania Medical College said that only a handful of PH students had received their stipends on Thursday. "We submitted our representation to Dr. Triveni, who informed us that they were working on an early disbursement of the stipend amount," she said.

In Telangana, there are more than 12000 junior doctors including house surgeons, senior residents and first, second and third-year PG students in government medical colleges across the state. The PG doctors get a stipend between Rs 58,300 and Rs 65,000 a month, depending on which year they're in, house surgeons receive about Rs 25,900.

Earlier, in December 2023, TJUDA wrote a letter to multiple authorities over the delay in the release of stipends to doctors.

"We are addressing an ongoing concern related to the timely distribution of stipends for postgraduate students. Previously, stipends were provided when we decided to participate in a strike. Despite the expectations that this action would establish a regular stipend distribution process, we have yet to see any disbursement. When we inquired, we were told that the delay is due to the election process but even after the conclusion of the election process, stipends have not been disbursed," read the letter.
