Twitter war between Telangana Governor, health minister over medical college allocations
Telangana health minister T. Harish Rao alleged that despite repeated pleas from the state government, gross injustice had been meted out to Telangana in sanctioning medical colleges as out of a total of 157 medical colleges approved by the Centre, none were for Telangana.
Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and health minister T. Harish Rao were engulfed in a Twitter war yesterday.
The Governor slammed the Telangana government’s inaction towards medical education in the state and also said that the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) is a “visionary” scheme that led to a “medical revolution” in the past eight years, by funding one medical college in every district.
“When every state applied for new med colleges under the PMSSY scheme Telangana failed to apply in time as stated by Union health minister Mansukh Mandavia. You sleep and wake up late and ask. TN got 11 medical colleges in a single year,” said Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
"FACT is Gross injustice meted out to Telangana in sanctioning of Medical Colleges, despite repeated pleas from state govt to Centre. Of 157 medical colleges approved by centre, TS got Union Govt discriminated & deceived TS in all three phases of allotment of Colleges," tweeted Harish Rao.
"What's worse is Union ministers' contrasting statements on medical colleges. One said TS didn't make any request, other said Govt wanted colleges in Khammam & Karimnagar. By stating Centre didn't give a nod bcos private colleges are already set up, Who is misleading people?," he added.
"Telangana Chief Miniser K. Chandrashekar Rao setup 12 medical clgs with state's own funds in tune to vision of one medical college in each district. Telangana tops in country with 19 MBBS seats per lakh population? Instead of hurling abuses, Centre & governor shud appreciate the state government for opening 8 collges in a single day," he added further.
