UP Budget 2026-27 saw significant surge in the basic and medical education. Medical education has received an allocation of INR 14,997 and basic education has got INR 77,622.
The budget session was presented by UP finance minister Suresh Khanna. The 9,12,696.35 crore budget was presented in UP's Vidhan Sabha. The overall budget is up by 12.9% as against the previous year.
According to the budget, the state will get 14 new medical colleges with an allocation INR 1023 crore. A cancer institute in Lucknow is announced with a budget of INR 315 crore, and INR 580 crore for setting up residential Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in development blocks which currently have no such school.
"Individuals possessing technical skills or proficiency in any trade are unlikely to remain unemployed. To this end, large-scale employment-oriented training and skill enhancement programmes will be run in mission mode on a priority basis. Alongside formal education, arrangements will be made to strengthen the skill base of youth," said Khanna, as reported by media.

UP Budget 2026-27: More Highlights

For secondary education in the state, the budget increased by 15% and 7% more budget proposed for higher education that stood at INR 6591. The government also announced INR 300 crore for developing smart primary schools. A total of INR 650 core is allocated to provide free school bags, uniforms, socks, shoes and stationary to students of Class 1 to Class 8. The teachers will also get cashless medical facilities under INR 359 crore scheme.
The budget also included INR 21 crore each for setting Swami Shukdevanand University and Kashi Naresh University, INR 50 crore for establishing Guru Jambheshwar University and Maa Pateshwari University.
