Karnataka School Reopening: Karnataka Primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar on March 14, 2021, clarified that the state has not made any announcement of summer vacation and promotion without examinations for school students in the state. The minister gave clarification regarding the summer break and promotion of students after some rumours regarding the summer vacation of school students started surfacing on the internet.

The minister further has made it clear that the news that the next class will be passed without examination is far from the truth. He also said that many programs through Akadhavani being presented for the benefit of the children of one to the fifth-grade government school in the classes are also taking place on television as well. "Teachers are reviewing student learning progress with the help of local resources. The schools have not announced a summer holiday," Suresh Kumar added.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus last year affected the academic calendar adversely. The imposition of the nationwide lockdown in order to contain the virus led to the closure of schools and other academic institutions. All the educational activities shifted to virtual modes and eventually, state governments took the decision to promote students without exams considering the pandemic circumstances.

However, for the current academic session, the government is not planning to follow the same pattern. With the situation coming under control, the authorities reopened the schools and colleges in a phased manner. Conduction of exams via offline mode and regulating other academic activities is also the subject of various discussions.
