As per CBI records, a total of 1,29,206 candidates appeared for the 2021 CGPSC Prelims, of which 2,548 cleared the prelims. Out of these, 509 qualified for the interview and 170 candidates were selected for various posts.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested five people in the ongoing probe into the Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) recruitment scam linked to the 2020 and 2021 examinations. The arrests were made on September 18, 2025.

Those taken into custody include the then Secretary of CGPSC, the then Controller of Examination, a Deputy Collector who is the son of the then Secretary, another Deputy Collector who is the daughter-in-law of the brother of the then Chairman, and a District Excise Officer who is also the daughter-in-law of the brother of the then Chairman.

The agency said in its press note, “The CBI has arrested five accused on 18.09.2025 to unearth larger conspiracy in selection of candidates in CGPSC Exam 2021 & 2020.”

The case was registered on July 9, 2024, after notifications were issued by the Chhattisgarh government in February and April 2024. The FIR alleged that the then Chairman, the then Secretary, and other officials of CGPSC misused their positions between 2020 and 2022 to favour their relatives in the selection process.

As per CBI records, a total of 1,29,206 candidates appeared for the 2021 Preliminary Examination, of which 2,548 cleared the prelims. Out of these, 509 qualified for the interview stage and finally 170 candidates were selected for various posts. The agency said that in addition to the latest arrests, the then Chairman of CGPSC, the then Deputy Controller of Examinations, four selected candidates, and one private individual had already been arrested earlier. All of them are in judicial custody.

The five newly arrested accused will be produced before court for police remand. The CBI added, “Further investigation is underway to investigate the role of other suspect candidates, who were selected in CGPSC examination.”
