“Exams Will Be Fair and Transparent”: SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan Breaks Silence Amid Aspirants’ Protest

After Ramlila Maidan Protest Over Exam Irregularities on Aug 24. SSC Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan breaks silence after SSC protests, assures students that exams will be “fair and transparent,” and promises action against agencies if lapses are found.
“I would only say this to students: that the exam should be fair and transparent,” said Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Chairman S. Gopalakrishnan, in his first public reaction after protests by SSC aspirants at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on August 24 over alleged exam irregularities and paper leaks. Stressing that fairness is SSC’s responsibility, the Chairman reassured candidates that corrective measures are being taken to prevent malpractices and ensure smooth conduct of future examinations.
SSC Chief emphasized that multiple agencies are involved in conducting SSC examinations, but the final accountability rests with the Commission. “There are four agencies involved, each playing an important role. If any agency has shortcomings, we will take action against them,” he said speaking to NavBharat Times, signaling a tougher stance on vendors and service providers.
Future of SSC Exams
The SSC Chairman said: “I am confident that in the future, exams will be conducted smoothly.” His comments come at a time when students, opposition leaders, and education activists have all demanded greater transparency in the recruitment process, following allegations of irregularities and reports of police action at the Ramlila Maidan protest.
On Complaints Over Question Papers
Responding to widespread complaints from aspirants about incorrect questions, Gopalakrishnan clarified: “We have received some complaints stating that questions were incorrect due to the involvement of some agency. However, this is not correct because questions come from different sources, not from the agencies that manage the process.”
He added that while certain issues had cropped up earlier during the transition to new testing methods, mechanisms are now being strengthened to prevent recurrence.
