Teachers in Maharashtra demand rescheduling of the state’s Class 5 and 8 scholarship exam as it clashes with CTET 2026, both scheduled on February 8.

Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) 2026 exam and Maharashtra scholarship exam for Classes 5 and 8 are both scheduled on February 8, 2026, creating a causing scheduling conflict for teachers across state. Several teacher associations have urged Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) to reschedule scholarship test, citing career and eligibility concerns.

With both exam dates clashing thousands of teachers in Maharashtra are caught in a difficult situation as state level scholarship exam and CTET 2026 are set to be held on same day, February 8.

Scholarship exam organised by MSCE assesses merit among students of Classes 5 and 8. It will assess nearly nine lakh students and would require supervision by around 50,000 teachers.

On same date, CBSE CTET 2026 will take place across 132 cities in India, in 20 different languages. For many teachers CTET is an important qualifying exam for teaching jobs, and missing it could affect their career prospects.

Teacher associations have demanded that MSCE postpone scholarship exam by at least a week, allowing teachers to appear for CTET.

Officials from the MSCE have confirmed receiving multiple representations from teachers and said that the issue is being reviewed. “No final decision has been made yet, but the council is considering the matter,” said an official source.

CTET 2026 will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on February 8, and notification and application process are expected to begin shortly on ctet.nic.in.
