National Testing Agency has opened CUET PG 2026 registration, which will remain open till January 14, 2026. While candidates can select multiple exam city preferences during the application process, the final allotment of exam centres is done by NTA based on availability and administrative considerations.
With CUET PG 2026 registration underway, candidates applying for postgraduate admissions through this national level entrance exam are looking for clarity on exam city selection and centre allotment rules. National Testing Agency (NTA) shares details of how exam cities are allotted, how many preferences candidates can choose and when exam location details are communicated through city intimation slip.
CUET PG 2026 Exam Cities in India and Abroad
CUET PG 2026 exam will be conducted in March 2026 in 292 cities, including 272 cities across India and 16 international locations. NTA has reduced number of exam cities compared to last year, citing operational feasibility and better management of exam centres.
Candidates opting to appear for CUET PG outside India will be allotted centers only in overseas cities notified in official information bulletin.
How CUET PG Exam City Allotment Is Done
During CUET PG application process, candidates are required to choose their preferred exam cities. Based on these choices, NTA allots exam centres after considering:
- availability of seats at test centres
- number of applicants in a city
- logistical and administrative requirements
NTA has clarified that it will try to allot centres as per preferences, but final centre allotment remains its prerogative.
How Many Exam City Preferences Can Candidates Choose
For CUET PG 2026, candidates are allowed to select up to four exam city preferences while filling the application form. These cities must be chosen based on candidate’s present or permanent address.
Candidates who have already submitted their application forms will be given an opportunity to edit exam city choices during correction window, as per NTA’s schedule.
Can NTA Allot an Exam City Outside the Preferences?
Yes. NTA has stated that it may allot an alternate exam city if sufficient seats are not available in preferred locations or if there are operational constraints. This means candidates may be assigned centres outside their selected city list, particularly in high demand locations.
CUET PG 2026 candidates are advised not to finalise travel plans until exam city is officially confirmed.
