IIT Bombay will conduct the JAM 2026 exam on February 15, 2026. The examination will be conducted in seven test papers, namely, Biotechnology (BT), Geology(GG), Mathematics (MA), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Mathematical Statistics (MS), and Physics (PH). The IIT JAM exam 2026 will be conducted in a computer-based test. Students who are seeking admission to a programme must qualify in the relevant test paper, satisfy the eligibility requirements of the respective academic programme. 

The JAM 2026 scores will be utilized to fill a total of about 3,000 postgraduate seats in 22 IITs in the upcoming academic year 2026-2027. Eligible candidates will apply through the IIT JAM way. There are also 2,000 other postgraduate seats offered by participating institutions such as IISc, NITs, IISERs, DIAT, IIEST Shibpur, IIPE, SLIET and JNCASR.

IIT Bombay is going to organize JAM 2026 in about 116+ cities in India. The entrance exam will be conducted on February 15, 2026 for admission to MSc, MSc-MTech Dual Degree, Joint MSc-PhD and Integrated PhD programs.

All applications will be reviewed for accuracy, completeness of supporting documents, and clarity of photo and signature. Candidates will be notified of any defects by email/SMS and will be advised to remedy any defects in accordance with the deadline.  Candidates can track the status of their application at any time through JOAPS.

Please upload a recent passport-sized color photo (3.5 × 4.5 cm) with a white or light background. The photo must clearly show your face, which must be at least 50% of the photo. Acceptable JPEG/JPG sizes are 20-200 KB. With a pixel range of 240×320 to 480×640 and aspect ratio of 0.66-0.89.

While applying for JAM 2026, candidates must choose their first, second, and third preference cities. The first choice determines the zone. You must choose your second and third choice cities from the same zone. If a city cannot be assigned, an alternative will be assigned.

IIT JAM 2026 will take place as a computer-based test (CBT) with different questions in random order. There will be 60 questions. Total marks will be 100, with three sections: A, B and C.

Pwd students get one extra hour for per paper they give. And those with less than 40% disability can also avail the benefit.

Anyone with a Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university can apply. The exam has no age limit or minimum marks criteria, and final-year students are also eligible.

If a student has entered an inaccurate category, gender, date of birth (DoB), or city of examination in the IIT JAM 2026 registration form, they may revise the details upon payment of an extra charge of INR 300. Candidates can also add a test paper or alter the earlier chosen test paper by paying an additional charge of INR 300 prior to November 10, 2025.

A bachelor's degree is mandatory. Different minimum marks are needed for various categories (e.g., 55% for General/OBC-NCL, 50% for SC/ST/PwD). Those interested in Economics need at least 55% possibly cumulative (CGPA = 5.5). For SC/ST/PwD minimum aggregate marks are 50% CGPA = (5.0).

 IIT JAM 2026 fee for general category is Rs 2000 for one test paper and Rs 2700 for two test papers.

Candidates with disabilities that are visually impaired and are not able to properly undergo the CBS system may receive services from a scribe. The students must apply for a scribe during the application process. If they decide to use the services of a Scribe, they will be provided by the Examination Body.

In the year 2026, the IIT JAM exam will be held in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The questions will be presented in a random order in computer screen. The examination will consist of a total of 60 questions with a combined maximum mark value of 100. The exam will consist of three sections, namely, section A, section B and section C.

Eligible candidates will have a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university to apply IIT JAM 2026. There is no minimum marks to apply and even final year students are allowed to appear for the exam. In addition, there is no age limit, and exam can be given from Indian and Foreign candidates.

If a candidate has submitted incorrect category/ gender/ DoB or examination city in the IIT JAM registration 2026 form, he/she is allowed to rectify it by paying INR 300 as an additional fee. Also, students will get a chance to add an additional test paper or also change the test paper in the application form already submitted by payment of INR 300 by November 10, 2025.

Each candidate is allowed to attend two test papers for the IIT JAM 2026 exam. Additionally, PwD candidates will be provided with one hour of compensatory time for each paper. However, to avail of compensatory time, the PwD candidates must fill the necessary forms when registering for IIT JAM 2026.

The scores of JAM 2026 will be utilized to replenish about 3000 seats for the postgraduate programme at 22 IITs for various specializations in the academic session 2026-27. No, IIT JAM 2026 application forms will not be released in offline mode. The application process for IIT JAM, including the step of uploading documents as well as payment of the application fee, will be carried out only in the JOAPS portal. The authorities will not entertain any request for registrations in offline mode.
