Seven students of Chamarajanagar Medical Sciences Institute found Covid positive

After SDM College of Medical Sciences in Dharwad reported Covid-19 cases, now seven students of the Chamarajanagar Medical Sciences Institute in Karnataka are found to be Covid 19 positive.
As per the Karnataka Health Department, seven medical students of Chamarajanagar Medical Sciences Institute and thirteen students of the government-run Morarji Desai hostel of Guramaranahalli village in Channarayapatna taluk of Hassan are found to be Covid 19 positive.
After the cases came to light, both the college and hostel are sealed by the authorities.
The infected students of the hostel are all students of classes 6 to 10. As per reports, they are all asymptomatic. As a precautionary step, these students shifted to the Covid care centre and reportedly recovering well. Now, the health department is planning to conduct tests on the primary contacts of the Covid positive students.
The Health Department's statement reads, “The infections were found in the routine RT-PCR tests conducted by the health department for every 15 days. The hostel students infected with Covid-19 are studying in classes 6 to 10. All of them have been isolated and are being treated,” as reported by Hindustan Times.
After these students were found Covid positive, senior health and revenue department officials went to the school and shifted the infected students to the Covid care centre. The school was sealed, sanitised and nearly 115 students who are the primary contacts of the infected students were sent to quarantine centres.
In Chamarajanagar Medical Sciences Institute, Covid-19 tests were conducted on 325 students and seven out of them were found to be Covid-19 positive. Another 500 students and staff were tested as they were the primary contacts of the infected students and their results are negative. Tests reports of another 150 students are awaited.
In the wake of the recent Covid-19 cases reported in Karnataka, the state government's official statement said," All students in medical and paramedical and other such educational institutions should be screened daily for symptoms of Covid-19. And the symptomatic should be tested and treated as per the guidelines already issued.”
