According to the latest update, the education department of the state began the admission process on August 17 for the students from classes 1 to 6 and 9 while the admission process for the students from classes 11 and 12 are scheduled to begin from August 28, 2020.
Tamil Nadu commenced the class 11 admissions for the Higher Secondary Schools in the state. According to the latest update, the education department of the state began the admission process on August 17 for the students from classes 1 to 6 and 9 while the admission process for the students from classes 11 and 12 are scheduled to begin from August 28, 2020. Various media reports suggest that the demand for BCom courses got the highest number of seekers this year as well as the students are getting a tough time securing a seat in the programme in the colleges of the state. Reports also suggest the demand for the Engineering course in Tamil Nadu is also increased which has led to many schools offering Engineering Degrees.
Students are also opting for the Bio-Maths stream due to the high cutoff for the BCom programme in institutions including Loyola College and Madras Christian College. The majority of the government schools are also experiencing an increase in demand for the commerce and science stream. While some students are choosing commerce calling it an easy subject compared to science others are opting commerce as it will give them a good platform for Chartered Accountancy and Civil Services. While addressing the media MM Ramalakshmi, Headmistress at Presidency Government Girls Higher Secondary School said that many of the students opted for Commerce Stream on Day 1 of the admissions and the number of inquiries also increased. She further stated that roughly around 150-200 admissions are expected this year against the 87 in the previous year. The government schools in the state also decided to offer free books and uniforms to the students during the admissions.
Schools are asked to follow all the prescribed precautionary released by the Ministry of Health against the COVID-19 spread. Following social distancing, usage of sanitizers and disinfectants is a must, Tamil Nadu state School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan directed schools in his latest statement.
