UGC further extends deadline for MPhil, PhD submissions until December 31

Earlier, last December, the commission extended the deadline by six months and allowed the thesis to be submitted by June 30, 2021, which has been further extended by six months now.

MPhil, PhD thesis submission deadline extended again! The University Grants Commission (UGC) further extended the deadline for submission of MPhil and PhD thesis by six months. According to the latest announcement made by the Commission, the UGC has asked universities to further extend the deadline to December 31, 2021.

Earlier, last December, the commission extended the deadline by six months and allowed the thesis to be submitted by June 30, 2021, which has been further extended by six months now.

The official notification released by UGC reads, “Keeping in view the larger interest of the research scholars, a further extension of six months beyond June 30, 2021, i.e., till 31 December 2021, for submission of the thesis by MPhil/PhD students may be granted by the Universities.”

Meanwhile, UGC also granted a six months extension for publication and presentation in two conferences. The decision is taken considering the ongoing pandemic situation, however, as per the UGC, the tenure of fellowship will remain up to five years only.

Meanwhile, UGC also approved the plan to allow approximately 37 universities, including Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), to offer online degrees. According to the reports, the decision is taken almost six months after UGC started the process of recognizing such qualifications. Considering the ongoing pandemic situation, UGC took this step with an aim to give formal recognition to online degrees and cash in on the momentum built during the COVID disruptions. It is expected that the move may also increase enrolment in higher education allowing varsities utilize resources in a better way and generate revenue. UGC has approved a variety of courses starting from Sanskrit to business administration, from data science to liberal arts.
