The Colleges, Universities and Higher Education Institutions across Uttar Pradesh have reopened from today; i.e. February 15, 2021, onwards amid the strict COVID-19 guidelines. The Higher Education Department of Uttar Pradesh has earlier released Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for colleges opening after a gap of nearly 11 months. Since mid-march last year, the colleges, universities across the state have been kept closed owing to coronavirus outbreak.

Uttar Pradesh government had earlier issued a circular giving permission to colleges, Universities and higher education institutions in the state following COVID-19 precautions. The circular reads "All universities, degree colleges and other educational institutions of higher learning across the state will function normally from February 15. These institutions were reopened with restrictions on November 23, 2020.”

The circular issued by Special Secretary of Higher Education Department Abdul Samad has also been sent to Vice-Chancellors and Directors of Higher Education of all the private and state universities of Uttar Pradesh. With colleges and higher education institutions slated to reopen from today, i.e. February 15, 2021,  it is important for students, teachers and other non-teaching staff members to understand and follow the COVID-19 guidelines to ensure a safe and infection-free campus.

As per the guidelines released by the Uttar Pradesh government, the students and teachers will have to mandatorily wear face masks all the time while on campus and must follow social distancing. Moreover, institutes will have to get the complete campus, including all the common areas, classrooms and even laboratories, completely sanitise before reopening. Attendance in the universities and colleges will not be mandatory and online classes will continue, as per the UGC guidelines. In case any student, teacher, or staff member exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, they are to be immediately sent home and testing should be done and results should be recorded, as per the guidelines.
