M Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India, has asked for compulsory inclusion of skilling initiatives at the school level. As per his statement, not enough attention has been paid in the past to skilling in the education system and called for reconsidering the education policy. He pitched to make it mandatory for offering skills to school students. He further said that there is a need to bring vocational education in the curriculum to create an ecosystem that generates skilled manpower. He was of the view that the New Education Policy must address skilling as well as scaling. He opined that it was the duty of the Government of India and all the states to make sure that school children were offered skills in all spheres.
As per his statement, agriculture needed a multi-pronged approach from offering infrastructure to ensuring access to the market for agricultural commodities. He said that freebies and loan waivers were not going to solve the problems faced by farmers and permanent solutions were needed. Expressing his confidence that the Indian economy would bounce back if the reforms were continued at the same pace, Mr. Naidu made appeals to the industry and the corporate sector to collaborate with the universities and academic institutions for consolidating R & D and making youngsters acclimatise to the needs of 21st century.
Pitching for making an ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship to flourish, he also insisted the youth to make good use of initiatives like Skill India and acquire knowledge and skills pertaining to new technologies, consisting of artificial intelligence and machine learning.
