Vellore Institute of Technology, Andhra Pradesh (VIT-AP) has introduced a dualΒ programmeΒ in humanities, BA-MA in public services. TheΒ programmeΒ aims toΒ give learners the opportunity to decide at what stage they can take the UPSC exam. TheΒ programme, whichΒ includes courses on sociology, anthropology, geography, psychology, international relations, history and economics,Β is designed for students who are interested in social sciences.Β The announcement was made by the institute during a joint two-day conference with Cambridge University Press.Β 

VIT-AP University, in collaboration with Cambridge University Press as a knowledge partner, hadΒ organisedΒ Athena β€” An Annual International Conference of VIT-AP School of Social Sciences and Humanities (VISH) virtually. The two-day conference began on December 11.Β 

Lajwanti Naidu, Assistant Director (Strategy), Andhra Pradesh Tourism Authority, inaugurated the conference in the presence of VIT Chancellor G Viswanathan.Β Lajwanti praised the institute for introducing the dualΒ programmeΒ in humanities. She said, β€œTeaching courses like will make the students better human beings.”

Eligibility criteriaΒ 

A minimum of 60 per cent in Class XII from anyΒ recognisedΒ boards of examination, with relaxationsΒ 
as applicable. Students from Jammu and Kashmir and North Eastern states ofΒ India, SC/ST community students should have an aggregate of 50 per cent in ClassΒ XII exams.Β Β 

Features of theΒ programmeΒ 

TheΒ dual degree of BA and MA in public services is aΒ five-year programme (three plus two with exit option after successful completion of BA).

  • Students can choose the qualifying degree and duration forΒ  the course.Β 
  • On completion of three years, they can exit with the BAΒ  degree in public servicesΒ 
  • Students have the option to decide when to appear for theΒ  public services examinations based on their eligibility andΒ  readiness.Β 
  • They can choose their major area ofΒ specialisationΒ accordingΒ  to their area of interest.Β 
  • They can opt for minor electives of their choice in anyΒ  department of the university.Β 
  • They can also participate in co-curricular activities suchΒ  as clubs and chapters.Β 
  • Integrated Training for UPSC offered by Expert IAS TrainersΒ  (Partnership with reputed IAS Training Centre).Β
