Mystory@Amrita Pandey: How I selected my course and what I did differently
When I decided to take admission in a post graduate course in 2011, I had already completed a PG degree in Physics. Just that MSc Physics was not what I wanted to do! I wanted to pursue a professional course but my father insisted I do an MSc. After all, my friends were doing masters in Mathematics, etc., so how could I be expected to do any less.
It was a government college and admission was through counselling and entrance exam. I had told my father not to worry. I reassured him, “I’ll complete my MSc but not in Physics. I’ll do it in Computer Science (CS), which is also MSc.” Oh my God! How much I had to convince him. My brother, my mother, my father… no one supported me then.
As a result, I did complete my MSc in Physics but I passed with a third division. I wish I had failed but my bad luck I passed the exam! Now I had to convince my family that this 3rd division MSc degree has no value today, so please don't stop my studies. My father thought for a while and finally said, “OK”. Wow! I can’t tell you how happy I was to hear that. I took admission in PGDCA (then MSc CS). And now I have a MSc CS degree with 81%.
How I spent my college life
I miss my college days. All students and teachers loved me a lot. I was part of each and every celebration. My seniors said, “Jahan tum raho waha celebration na ho, aisa kaise ho sakta hai”. We used to contribute towards festivals and birthday celebrations and have fun together. I have so many certificates for my extra-curricular activities in my college time.
My teacher who had taught me earlier used to like me, and later he proposed me for marriage. I was shocked. Then we spend time with each other. After one year, he came home to talk to my mother for our marriage. I was surprised. But my mother said ‘No’. After a few months he got married. I fought with my parents for him so much but...
Then I joined a school as a teacher. I got a good job in the education field and kept getting promotions and increments. I love my office people and they also love me a lot because I believe in living a happy life and making others happy as well. But today I’m sad and living a boring life. Right now, I am not happy with my life. But I’ll never give up…never. I will fight any situation, as I am doing right now. My current designation is senior freelancer. I like studies. My qualification is MSc in Computer Science and I’m appearing for Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Management (PGDDM) from IGNOU. I like doing social work and want to help the poor. I’m interested in travelling to different places in India and abroad.
I want to say to all girls and women that do anything but never choose the wrong way. Fight with any bad situation but don't give up. Don't stop living your life. Gain as much knowledge as you can and enjoy studies. Nobody can demand a dowry from you. If anybody asks for dowry, give a tight slap and call the police. Always stand tall when you are right.
