At IIIT Agartala, students actively participate in all co-curricular activities like games and sports, techno-cultural festivals, essay competitions, drama competitions, rallies on various themes, NSS programmes and many more sponsored by the State Government, Central Government and other statutory bodies and the Institute authority. NSS or NCC is a compulsory subject for all students in the first year.

IIIT Agartala is currently operating from the NIT Agartala campus on a temporary basis, and it is unlikely to change for at least the next five years. At present IIIT Agartala is temporarily functioning from NIT Agartala campus and it is offering BTech Computer Science and Engineering Program. IIIT Agartala is an institution of National Importance under MHRD - Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode and at present NIT Agartala is its mentor institute.
