Animation Eligibility

Dear Anjali, It's really good to hear that after completing B.COM your interest shown towards the animation.Its really a good choice to your career.But before planning to do animation , some important things you need to know about animation. i.e. what is animation? , what does it includes?,what is the career growth in animation?whether you are eligible to do? etc there is lots of questions which differs. As per my knowledge Animation is not a simple thing.it is one of the most demanding career option of today's generation.The most important eligibility criteria required to be fulfilled to any students to pursue in the field of the animation is to be creative and imaginative and artistic abilities like drawing, sketching.etc. There are more courses. you can choose 2D or 3D animation, either you can go BSC Animation ( i.e.3years course) or Diploma course (i.e.18 months ).Two courses have more scope and good career. A good mentor and wise selection of courses with a good school, followed by diligent learning, would get you a head start in your career. However, you must check your suitability for this field. Animation is an art form and a very demanding career. It has ample opportunities for the creatively talented people. Opportunities lie in animation design, game design, graphics, storyboarding, 3d modelling, texturing and lighting, Dynamics and VFX and of course animation (2D and 3D). However, choosing between these must be done after seeing your performance in each of these. So going for a generic course covering all or most of these would be the best way to get started in these careers. Typically you should have good sketching skills to be able to make a sound career in this (if you work hard you can improve your drawing skills tremendously). Nothing but your innermost talent and passion should lead you to the course and the institute you choose. Rashmi, If your son's creative, you can always consider going for Design and Animation. However, at this age i'd start with a good sketching school or diligent self learning (self learning is more costly since you need live models to do this study). Very few sketching schools do good Life Art training, so you have to really hunt for that. A good mentor and wise selection of courses with a good school, followed by diligent learning, would get you a head start in your career. However, you must check your suitability for this field. -> As per your query regarding Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED), it is an all India examination conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Department of Education, Government of India.
The examination tests the candidates for visual perception ability, drawing skills, design aptitude and communication skills.
CEED is a qualifying examination for admission to Post Graduate M.Des. programmes at the Industrial Design Centre (IIT Bombay), Inter disciplinary Industrial Design Programme (IIT Delhi), Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (IISc Bangalore) and Design Programme (IIT Kanpur). However for IIT Kanpur and IISc Bangalore GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) qualified candidates will also be considered.
-> Eligibility for CEED :
Candidates must either have completed or be expecting to complete any of the following :
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Architecture / Design/ Interior Design or equivalent (4 years duration after 10 + 2)
- Professional Diploma in Design (NID/CEPT or equivalent of 4 years duration after 10+2)
- B.F.A. (4 year professional programme, after 10+2)
- G.D. Art (5 year programme after 10th) with one year post qualification professional experience.
- Master's degree in Arts / Science / Computer Applications
[Students with any Degree in a three year Bachelor's programme are not eligible.]
- There is no age limit and a candidate can appear in CEED any number of times.
