Civil Servant (IAS/PCS) eligibility

Dear Mayank,
The minimum qualification required for IAS is graduation from a reputed university. There are two stages that you need to clear- preliminary exam and main exam. In order to prepare for IAS the minimum requirement is graduation from a recognized university and the age group is 21-30yrs. For your preparation I would suggest you to first join a good coaching center so that you have the relevant study material to start your preparation.
CSAT: It is an Objective type examination consisting of Two Papers that is common to all candidates from 2011 having special emphasis on testing their aptitude for civil services as well as on general knowledge.
Main Exam.: Those who qualify the CSAT exam are shortlisted for the Main exam. It is a descriptive (essay type) examination. The General Studies, Essay paper, English Paper are common to all candidates and with this a candidate has two optional subjects to choose from the given options and a language paper of his / her choice. Here you can opt for subjects like Maths, Eco, Phy, stats etc.
You may consider taking up coaching for this purpose from various institutes like Career Launcher, Chanakya, RAU's IAS academy etc.

UPSC examination is conducted every year. On the basis of this examination a number of IAS, IPS, IFS officers are recruited.
Regarding subjects, there is a big list of optional subjects to choose from. You may choose according to your personal interest and skills. It is advisable to opt for a particular subject in which you are comfortable and find scoring as it will help you to prepare well and crack the exam.
You may opt for subjects like Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry etc.

About the exam
IAS - Indian Administrative Service Exam conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) every year in a pan-Indian basis.
Eligible for courses
After taking the exam, you will be eligible for Indian Administrative Services and will be allocated services.
Eligibility Criteria
For Indian Administrative Service, a candidate should be a citizen of India.
Candidate should be between 21 – 30 years (both inclusive) as on the date mentioned under the UPSC examination notification.
Candidate must be a graduate from a recognized university or a deemed university.
Candidate appearing for the final year of bachelor's degree and awaiting result can also apply.
Candidate possesses professional and technical qualification recognised by Government equivalent to the professional and technical degree can also apply.
Candidate who has passed the final professional M.B.B.S. or any other Medical Examination but has not completed his/her internship by the time of submission of his/her application for the Civil Services (Main) Examination.

- You need to pass graduation in any field from any recognized university.
- You are eligible if you are in the final year of graduation.
- Your age must be between 21 to 30 years. 3 and 5 years of relaxation for OBC and SC/ST respectively.
- You must be an Indian citizen.
