SGBAU, Amravati is a public state university established initially to cater to the educational needs of the rural population and has its jurisdiction within 5 districts namely Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal, Buldana and Washim. The university focuses on the upliftment of the backwards and downtrodden classes by receiving substantial grants from the funding agencies such as UGC, DST, DBT, AICTE, DRDO, DAE and various others. SGBAU, Amravati has been rated grade “B+” by NAAC in the fourth cycle of re- accreditation in 2022. Around 120 colleges are affiliated by SGBAU with more than 3,00,000 students getting quality education under this name.

Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University (SGBAU) was established in1983 whereas Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) was established in 1969. Both the colleges are public institution and fall in Maharashtra state with PDKV offering more than 70 courses including the traditional courses plus certificate courses and SGBAU offering 50 plus courses. However, SGBAU is quite famous for its MBA/ PGDM courses and BE/ B.Tech courses while PDKV is most famous for its agriculture related courses as it was initially established as an agriculture college. SGBAU Amravati provides certificate, undergraduate, graduate, and PhD level programs in fields such as science, engineering, management, commerce, education, arts, law and lifelong learning. The four-year Full Time BE/BTech programme at SGBAU is offered. Chemical Technology specialisations (Food Technology, Pulp & Paper Technology, Oil & Paint Technology, Petrochemical Technology) offer it. Eligible applicants must have a valid JEE Main exam score in order to be admitted to this course. The eligibility creiteria to get admission in the B.Tech programme at SGBAU is Class 12 with minimum 45%. The accepting exams for admission in the course are JEE Main, MHT CET, CBSE 12th, Maharashtra HSC, ICAR AIEEA.

SGBAU Amravati has 30 departments that offer certificate, undergraduate, graduate, and PhD level programmes in science, engineering, management, business, education, the arts, law, and lifelong learning.
