You need atleast 60% to get in BTech at Calcutta University as per the eligibility requirements set by the university. Hence with a score of 55% in Class 12 you are not eligible. But you can apply to different colleges and universities.

St. Xavier's and most of the college accept students from different life Science background, if you fulfil their eligibility criteria, which is mostly having a bachelor's degree and in some cases with a minimum percent is required.
