SASTRA University conducts the admission in two streams. In the stream 1, 70% of seats are allotted based on the candidates' JEE (Main) scores and 10+2 marks. The remaining 30% seats are allotted based on 10+2 or equivalent marks scored by the candidates, after that the counselling process.

Placements are also good. 80% placements are there in Sastra University, whenever students leave the college they have a good job, they have been recruited for top MNCs in India and abroad. SASTRA University arranges the interview for particular companies Paypal, Google, Microsoft, Zoho, Freshdesk and other various companies. Placement cell does a very good job and almost all the students get place. The average package is 3.18 LPA. The main companies hiring our students are TCS, Wipro and Accenture.
The highest package goes up to INR 14-15 LPA.
Companies like EBay, Amazon and some Chennai based companies hire students with nice package. There is a training and placement department which trains everyone after 6th semester. It boosts up confidence in every one to get placed in a good company. Many companies visit our university in 7th semester whereas some visit even in 6th semester.

Sastra University is known for its research in chemical engineering but it cannot be compared to IIT or NIT research.
There are core companies like Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, Ranbaxy, Manali Petrochemicals, etc.
These are some of the core companies that comes for the placement of chemical engineering students in Sastra University and provides package average salary about 9 lakh per annum.
But around 10 to 15% students of Chemical Engineering only get placed in core companies and rest of the students get placed in the mass recruiter IT companies like TCS, Accenture,etc.
They provide average salary about 3 lakh per annum.

According to the reviews of the students Sastra University placement of B.Tech students in mechanical engineering are not very good. According to the students about 20 to 25% students get placed in the core companies and rest of the students gets placed in the non-core companies which are mass recruiter like TCS, Accenture, etc.
You have to study hard to be in that 20 to 25% students and to get good placements in core companies.
Due to the students getting placed in mass recruiter companies they provide only the average salary to the students of mechanical engineering.
Students who get placed in core companies have a good salary rate.
Average salary provided to the students of mechanical engineering is about 4 lakh per annum.
Highest salary provided to the students is about 20 lakh per annum.
