I would recommend you to keep checking the newspapers as many such opportunities keep coming up where they need technical graduates for IT/engineering positions. In those cases, qualifying GATE does not become mandatory.

Hello Sachin,
It is really early for you to even think of starting preparing for GATE. The syllabus of GATE is same as that for engineering and you are still in 1st semester. Right? There could many changes in exam pattern in next four years. So I would advise you strongly to concentrate on studies of your engineering and think of this exam only after three years. Best wishes to you.

Hello Eswara, For appearing in GATE, M.Sc is an accepted norm or even 2nd year of M.Sc. However, getting into M.Tech for any branch, you need to have degree of B.Tech. There are very few institutes which will accept M.Sc. In chemistry as a criteria for admission for M.Tech. In this connection you should first decide in which institution you want to take admission and then check the eligibility requirement of this institution before taking the plunge into GATE and then finding out that you are not eligible. Best wishes to you.

Now, for the first year. Download your GATE syllabus and previous year paper for mathematics and any other subject which is there in your first year. Now, don't be tensed much. Just keep doing your college on a regular basis and keep learning the concepts, even the smallest one especially for mathematics and if any other subject you have in your first year according to GATE syllabus. Practice Maths for 1 hour daily for a whole year along with previous year questions also. Hello,
There is no fixed GATE cut-off score.
If the exam paper is very easy, then many people will get very high gate score, so the cut off will increase.
Bombay has the more competetion and you should be below 150 to get design.
Here it is a link google it-
http://www.iitb.ac.in/newacadhome/Cutofffiles/cutoff2018-19/Mechengg.html
It will help you for your daubts clear for recent cut-off.
Best wishes.
