IBS Dehradun accepts candidates based on the fulfilment of the preset admission criteria. Students seeking to join the MBA course offered at the institute need to go either appear for the IBSAT or provide scores obtained in the accepted exams, such as CAT, NMAT, etc. Although the institute also accepts merit-based admissions for its UG courses, students still need to appear for the PI rounds. Hence, yes, clearing all the selection stages can be quite a task. However, with the right prep and strategy, one has good chances of getting into IBS Dehradun.

Yes, you can join IBS Dehrdun without appearing for the IBSAT exam provided you submit scores secured in other accepted entrance exams. The institute accepts students mainly based on IBSAT performance, however, those with valid scores obtained in national-level exams, such as CAT/ XAT/ GMAT/ NMAT are exempted from appearing for the test.
