In order to be considered for admission into the BE course at JNN Institute of Engineering, Chennai, candidates are required to fulfil certain academic qualifications. The candidates for JNNIE BE admissions must have passed their 12th class qualifying examinations with at least 55% scoring in the PCM stream.

For students belonging to the Backward Classes (BC) and Most Backward Classes (MBC), the marks requirement is reduced to 50% and 45% respectively. SC/ST students from Tamil Nadu must pass their 12th qualifying examination without any minimum scoring requirement.

Admissions for the Engineering courses (BE, BTech) at JNNIE Chennai are based on the merit system. Candidates must acquire not less than 55% marks in their 12th qualifying examinations. Also, they are required to appear for the counselling sessions of the TNEA process. For admissions into the MBA programs at JNNIR Thiruvallur, candidates must appear and qualify the TANCET exam.
