Students applying for courses at JNN Institute of Engineering must first ensure that they meet the required eligibility conditions demanded by the institute. To be eligible for the courses at JNNIE Thiruvallur, students must have acquired the program-specific qualifications. For instance, the BE and BTech courses require applicants to achieve at least 55% marks in their 12th standard examinations. Also, they need to qualify for the TNEA Counselling sessions.

JNNIE Thiruvallur is itself affiliated with Anna University, Chennai and is part of the Alamelu Ammaal Educational Trust. The JNN Group of Institutions has gained significance as a premier education provider in southern India and has expanded its institutions across the state of Tamil Nadu. The Chairman of the JNN Group of Institutions is Shri S. Jayachandran, and the Vice-Chairman is Mr. Naveen Jayachandran. These individuals govern the various bodies of JNNIE Chennai, like the Governing Council and Academic Council. Other institutional bodies part of the institute are the R&D Cell, Training & Placement Cell, Entrepreneurship and Development Cell, among others.

The campus of JNNIE Chennai is located in the satellite town of Thiruvallur near the capital city of Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Located in the lush green outskirts of Chennai, the JNN Institute of Engineering is easily accessible via different modes of transportation. Coming via Chennai International Airport, it would take around 1 and a half hours to reach the institute campus. From Avadi Railway Station, a student can reach JNNIE Thiruvallur campus in less than 50 minutes.

Yes, as part of the Alamelu Ammaal Memorial Scholarship, JNNIE Chennai gives financial concessions to meritorious students from the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh. The relief provided is fixed up to an amount of INR 3,00,000 to students achieving more than 170 marks in their 10+2 examinations.
The concessions offered by JNNIE Thiruvallur as part of the Alamelu Scholarship includes tuition fees, transportation costs, and food charges.
