New York University breaks private university record for first-year applications for its Class of 2029. It received over 120,000 applications – more than any other private university. So, around 6,500 students will join the incoming class of NYU's three degree granting campuses in New York, Shanghai, and Abu Dhabi. From the last 2 years, NYU has maintained an acceptance rate of 8%. Considering the acceptance rate, NYU has highly selective at the time of admission. New York University ranking is exceptional in the world as well as in the U.S. Though in the current year's U.S. specific rankings, NYU does not rank among the Top 20 Universities, it surely ranks among the Top 50 Universities in the U.S. According to U.S. News & World Report, NYU ranks at #30 in 2025 in the National Universities category. Furthermore, in the world rankings, this university ranks at #43 in QS rankings and at #33 in Times Higher Education rankings in 2025. So, in the world rankings too, it ranks among the Top 50 Universities.

In the Shanghai Rankings 2024, NYU ranks at #31. This university was placed at #28 in the previous year's rankings. Considering the 2024 rankings, it can be said that NYU ranks among the Top 50 World Universities. Furthermore, a few of the courses of this university have also been ranked. This includes Law, Mathematics, Nursing, Political Sciences, etc.

According to U.S. News & World Report, NYU ranking is #30 in the National Universities category in 2025. In the previous year, this university ranked at #35. This shows that there has been an improvement in the university's U.S. specific rankings. Considering these rankings it can be said that the university is ranked among the Top 50 U.S. Universities in 2025.

In Financial Times Global MBA rankings, NYU ranks at #31 in 2025. In the previous year, it ranked at #21. This shows that there has been a decline in the MBA rankings. Still, the university has managed to maintain a position among the Top 50 Universities for its MBA course. Financial Times MBA ranking has been derived from 21 criteria. A few of these criteria are weighted salary, salary increase, value for money rank, career progress rank, alumni network rank, etc.
