Admission to the B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU) is purely on the basis of merit as assessed through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) administered by the Consortium of National Law Universities. Similarly, other National Law Universities (NLUs) also admit students to their B.A. LL.B. programs based on the CLAT or other specified entrance exams. Therefore, clearing the national-level entrance exam is a mandatory requirement for admission to the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Degree Programme at NLUs.

National Law Universities (NLUs) offer varying numbers of seats for their B.A. LL.B. degrees. For example, NLSIU Bangalore, a larger university, has over 300 seats available, whereas NLUs that are more recent may only have 120. General category seats are impacted by reservations for categories like as SC, ST, OBC, PwD, and EWS, with percentages differing throughout NLUs. Demand and competition have an impact on the ultimate intake; more qualified candidates may result in stiffer cutoffs and somewhat fewer admissions than the initial seat capacities.
