The MBA programs that require all your time and physical presence are called full-time MBA programs. All other MBA programs could be called part-time MBA programs. The part-time programs are open for any professional with some years of professional experience and can be studied besides the job. The structure can be modular, that is, students learn individually and come together every five or six weeks or two months to meet for a week together, generally called as residential periods of face-to-face sessions with the various professor. The structure can also be weekly when students have to come on the campus on a weekly or bi-weekly base. This allows to complete the MBA over two or three years and again the target group is all professionals, independent of they having leadership experience or not.

The minimum eligibility requirement for both types of MBAs are:
- Bachelor's Degree from a recognised university. - Diploma holders need to possess three-year work experience to pursue the programme
- B-schools select students based on entrance exams that test the analytical, verbal and numerical abilities of students. Some of the leading management institutes offering Correspondence MBA programs are SymbiosisCenter for Distance Learning, Narsee Monji Institute of Management Studies School for Continuing Education, Sikkim Manipal University Directorate of Distance Education, ICFAI University and IGNOU among others. Fees for Distance/ Correspondence MBA courses are less than regular MBA programs. Every B-school has its own fee structure. Programme fee ranges anywhere from Rs 50,000 up to Rs 10 Lacs. Ex: Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli (Fee: INR 10,00000) and Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune (Fee: INR 50,000).
