To be a good designer, a formal education does help, but, to be a good designer you need to be a artistic/visualiser, someone who sees this world from a very different lens, rather than zeros and ones. Also, a very important factor to be a good designer is/are not software/s but how well can you think/visualise from everybody else, how well do you understand your audience and their requirement and design accordingly
On the contrary, if you design for yourself, then its imperative that you bring out your thoughts in such a manner that they connect with the audience instantly. Bottom line, you need to understand your audience and d
