These are two completely contrasting fields and to excel in either of them, one needs to have passion and dedication to work in that direction. That being said, from a neutral point of view, if one is interested in both fields equally, the scope can greatly vary depending on where the person is working and what kind of work they are doing. Competition Law is a new and upcoming field. The new Competition Act was passed relatively recently, replacing the older MRTP Act and the laws related to competition law are being shaped by various judicial pronouncements that are passed every now and then. Labour law, on the other hand, has been around for a while. It also has a wider ambit as it covers several legislation. In terms of practice, both are good career options.

IT law is still a new field in India. It involves both civil and criminal aspects and the laws related to it are being shaped with each passing day. IT law is a good option if someone wants to grow with the growth in the field, which is mostly organic, tending to recent times when cyber space has expanded beyond comprehension (because of the accessibility to smart phones, armchair journalism on social media, etc. ). And its use needs to be regulated, if not completely controlled. That being said, environmental law, just like IT law, is the need of the hour. However, to excel is a field like environment law, one needs to be motivated by a deep sense of responsibility towards the environment if they actually do want to bring about a change, as the process is slow and tedious.

BA LLB is an integrated 5-year graduation course in law that offers a combined degree (BA and LLB). Admission to an integrated course opens after class 12th. National law Universities in India are known to be the best institutions for pursuing an integrated BA LLB course. Please note that apart from BA, students can choose other integrated degrees as well, I. e. B.Com LLB, B.Sc LLB, etc. Admission to 5-year law colleges is done on the basis of entrance tests conducted in the month of May. CLAT is the common entrance test for securing admission in the NLU's and some other colleges also use the same score to grant admission. Private universities, like Amity and Jindal, etc. , have their own entrance exams and admission is granted on the basis of marks scored in them. Sitting for the respective tests and getting marks is a prerequisite for getting admission. LLB, on the other hand, is a post-graduation 3-year course to be pursued after one had completed their graduation. Several colleges in India have the option of a post-graduate in law. The National Law Universities, however, do not have that option. Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, is one of the most reputed colleges to pursue law after graduation. Your choice of subject in graduation DO NOT have a bearing on your admission to a 3-year law college. Most admissions are given on merit, decided by conducting an entrance test usually in the months of May and June every year

Go for Faculty of law. It is one of the premier institutions to study law after graduation in India, and also one of the most sought after. Faculty of Law has churned out some of the best and most renowned lawyers and judges in the history of Indian Judiciary, like Siddhartha Luthra, Sr Adv, Rohinton Nariman, Justice AK Sikri, Justice Gita Mittal, etc. Truth be told, the standard of teaching in the Faculty of Law has gone down over the years. However, what still remains intact is the faith in the institution and the weight of the name. An alumnus of Campus Law Centre is welcomed like family in the field of litigation as most practicing lawyers have gone to law school at Delhi University.

There is no straight jacket formula which applies to all government colleges or all private colleges. I will give a brief idea about both of them, along with NLUs as a separate category, based on certain criteria:
Fee: While considering a degree, one definitely has to look at the fee structure of the course offered and whether or not it will be a potent future investment. Government colleges, as is known, have the most affordable fee structure. A post-graduation LL.B. From Faculty of Law cost less than Rs.10,000/- per annum. NLUs are slightly steeper in their fee structure, which can easily be over a Lacs per annum, for both tuition and hostel fee. Private colleges, in terms of fee, are the most expensive, reaching around 1.5-2lakh per semester, only for tuition fee. Residence, often, is not given by the college itself. Faculty: In a course like law, faculty is of prime importance, especially for someone pursuing law straight after school. Government law colleges are not really known for their faculty, which is, in most cases, just about average, even though some professors may be exceptionally brilliant. NLUs, on the other hand, have been known to house young and dynamic faculty, most of whom have done their higher studies from renowned colleges in US and UK. Private colleges have a mix of both. It is difficult to generalise. Infrastructure: NLUs have been known to have very good infrastructure, with well stocked libraries and comfortable hostels. Some also have smart classes. Private colleges also are rated well in terms of the infrastructure that they provide. Government colleges are not relatively praiseworthy when it comes to infrastructure.
