WBCS Pattern

The West Bengal Public Service Commission introduced an additional paper of General Studies II (Aptitude paper) in the WBCS prelims exam. Consequently, the Commission removed the aptitude section from the General Studies paper I and changed the weghtage of each section in the General Studies I as mentioned below:

The West Bengal Public Service Commission mentioned that there will be a negative marking in the WBCS 2025 Prelims exam under the new exam pattern. The quantum of negative marking will be mentioned in the WBCS prelims question paper. Under the new exam pattern, there will be two papers in the WBCS prelims exam.

The details can be seen below:

1. General Studies Paper I - 200 MCQ
2. General Studies Paper II - 200 MCQ

Both papers will have 200 multiple choice questions.

The West Bengal Public Service Commission mentioned through an official notice that the WBCS prelims exam will be conducted based on the new exam pattern. The candidates can see below the WBCS new exam pattern.

The West Bengal Public Service Commission notify the languages in which the candidates can answer in the WBCS main exam. The prelims exam is an objective type exam and the candidates are required to select correct answer from the given options. 

In the WBCS main exam, the candidates can answer in Bengali, English and Nepali. The candidates can write the answers in Nepali for the following two subjects

1.   Political Science 

2.   Botany

The West Bengal Public Service Commission mention the WBCS exam pattern in the official notification. The Commission also mention that there will be interview for all the posts included in the West Bengal Civil Service Exam. The Commission assign less marks to the WBCS Group D Interviews. The WBCS interview, also known as the Personality Test, is assigned different marks based on the group of service. The marks allocated for the interview are as follows:

• Group 'A' and 'B': 200 Marks
• Group 'C': 150 Marks
• Group 'D': 100 Marks

The West Bengal Public Service Commission mention these marks in the official notification.

The West Bengal Public Service Commission have a discretion to fix the minimum qualifying marks in all or any paper/subject and in the aggregate. The Commission will not mention it in the official notification. The Commission is expected to release the WBCS 2025 (2024 session) notification soon on its official website - psc.wb.gov.in.

The Commission is expected to conduct the WBCS 2025 exam in November/December.

The WBCS prelims exam pattern is expected to be changed and there will be two multiple choice objective type question papers in the WBCS 2025 prelims exam. There is a provision of negative marking in the prelims exam as well. The quantum of negative marking will be mentioned in the WBCS prelims question paper.

The WBCS exam follows a specific marking scheme where each correct answer in the exam is awarded one mark.In the Main Exam, there are eight papers with each paper carrying 200 marks, totaling 1600 marks for the entire exam.

The WBCS 2025 notification is expected to release soon by the West Bengal Public Service Commission.

In the WBCS exam, there are a total of eight papers. These papers include:

• Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali
• English
• General Studies - I
• General Studies - II
• The Constitution of India and Indian Economy including the role and functions of the Reserve Bank of India
• Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning
• Optional Subject - 1 subject to be chosen; 2 papers of 200 marks each
• Personality Test
