Mystory@Raghavendra R K: How I made the most of my college life

Mystory@Raghavendra R K

During my college admission process I felt like a Karnataka boy lost in a foreign country. Wondering why am I telling it this way? That’s because up till PUC, I studied in Kannada medium. To secure admission in BCom, I went to K L S Gogte College of Commerce. There some attenders were talking in English which I was unable to understand. I got shocked and wondered if I had passed the English subject or not. Finally, I decided to learn English and study in that college only. After submitting the admission form, I felt like I had won the world war.

On the first day of college, all the subjects were going above my head. The lecturer would ask one question and we all would give different answers. The computer teacher was horrible and her English was very difficult to understand. Faculty members were good, but if we talk about them, the first names that come to the mind after hearing the term ‘faculty’ are the lab boy and library sir. Their help is unforgettable. The hostel life experience was amazing. If the food weren’t tasty, then at midnight, at 2 or 3 am, our seniors would explode crackers. During birthdays, we would put cold water on the birthday boy at 12am, after which, all boys would start kicking his back. Also, studying till 4am during exam time, preparing tea at 2am to not fall asleep was amazing.

Initially, my English communication was not so good, but with experience, it improved. During my MBA, I was not able to give presentation even for ten minutes, but now I can give a presentation in English for 4 hours.

My belief is that no one is perfect by birth. To become perfect, more effort is required.
