Students’ Speak: Internships bridges gap between classroom knowledge and industry requirement

Internships play a major role in giving industry exposure to the college freshers. K. Abhishek provides an insight into internship and placement opportunities at EThames Degree College. He also shares key placement stats such as highest & lowest package offered and top recruiters.

EThames Degree College is one of the leading colleges for pursuing commerce stream in Telangana. Placements facilities and scope in our campus are excellent. The college provides many opportunities to bring out the best in students, shape their analytical skills and make progress in different fields. Internship opportunities are also offered by the college to help improve student ability, capacity and enabling them to apply their skills in various situations. Internship is a great mechanism to bridge the gap between what is taught in classrooms and what recruiters seek in candidates.

I am pursing B.Com (Computers) which is a three-year duration course. Our college arranges for internship and placement opportunities with leading companies, throughout our course curriculum, such as Amazon.in, HSBC, Tech Mahindra, Sri Ram Life Insurance, ZAPS, D-Mart, Birla Sun Life Insurance, ICICI Bank, Reliance Digital, Capital IQ, Mutual Mobiles, etc.

To apply for these internships and placement opportunities, students must maintain 55-60 percent aggregate in every subject. They must also maintain a minimum of 50 per cent attendance across all the semesters.

Students get the opportunity to associate with corporate houses for working on live projects during the course of their internship It helps them to be job ready for the recruiters. The placement record for our previous batch was really good, i.e. nearly 92 per cent students got placed. The salary packages obviously varies according to the company, job role and skills & overall knowledge of the students. Nearly 90 per cent students also interned with top companies and gained excellent exposure to current industry practices and techniques.

EThames Degree College has a placements cell to help students gain more knowledge in different fields. The placements cell also provides crucial assistance during the selection process. The highest salary package offered is 10 lakh per annum while the lowest is 3.4 lakh per annum. If the I talk about the sector wise break-up for placements in the previous season:

• Banking – 21 per cent students were selected
• E-commerce – 19 per cent students were selected
• Search Service – 17 per cent students were selected
• BPO – 14 per cent students were selected
• Stock Broking & Wealth Management – 12 per cent students were selected
• Consumer goods – 12 per cent students were selected

Internship plays an important role in our course for gaining hands-on experience in applying classroom learning. EThames provides short-term opportunities, offered by various organizations, to gain real-world work experience. After interning with different organizations, students would gain knowledge into different domains such as Marketing, HR, E-commerce, etc. Internships also help improve students’ soft skills and enhance their resumes. Experience of working on real time projects and picking up industry relevant skills can give a massive edge to the students during the final placement process.
