Education Minister V Sivankutty told that 2,282 teachers in the state have not been vaccinated, and will not be allowed to hold physical classes in schools.
Kerala School Reopening: While the government of Kerala announced the reopening of schools in the state from November 1, 2021, more than 2,000 teachers in Kerala are yet to be vaccinated. According to Indian Express, Education Minister V Sivankutty said that many of these unvaccinated teachers have cited their religious faith as among the reasons for not getting the jab.
The minister told that 2,282 teachers in the state have not been vaccinated, and will not be allowed to hold physical classes in schools.
He said, “A section of them have cited health reasons such as allergy, while others are keeping away from Covid-19 vaccine in the name of faith. The government wants all teachers to take vaccine shots considering the future of students. But we are not going to issue any order. It is better such teachers keep away from the school premises and they can take online classes.”
In order to conduct offline classes in schools, the government has made complete inoculation mandatory for all teachers and non-teaching staff in Kerala’s schools. The state has decided to follow this method hoping that it will function as a bio-bubble to prevent outbreaks.
After being closed for more than one-and-a-half years due to the outbreak of the deadly novel coronavirus, Kerala schools are set to reopen in a staggered manner from November 1 starting with Classes 1 to 7, 10 and 12. The reopening of schools is being followed with COVID protocols, such as bio-bubbles in place, the state government said ahead of school reopening. The decision to reopen schools has been taken with utmost vigilance. The process will take place in a staggered manner. Schools have been directed to strictly follow the guidelines prepared by the Health and Education departments.
