Post my BHM programme, Quantum University gave me the opportunity via its International Placement where I was selected by one of the top hotels in Singapore - Carlton City Hotel as a Station Chef with an 18 LPA salary package. I was on Cloud Nine. I was glad to see that my talent was very rightly understood and I was offered a career in my field of interest.

I was always passionate about the Hospitality Industry and the Art of Culinary since I entered adolescence. My mother loves cooking and I could see her fondness in the form of new food recipes that she use to prepare and present in front of me and my father everyday. Hence, from here you could easily make out why I am such a psycho for cooking. Twinning, ‘Like Mother, Like Son’.

Involving daily in a quarrel with my father about my future was not a cup of tea for me anymore. I really wanted to prove my worth and therefore, I decided to join one of the best universities to pursue my dream – ‘A Dream to become the best Corporate Chef in the industry.’ My father had dreamt of a different career for me, to see me as the CEO of one of the top MNCs which was a big NO for me. Some parents really need to stop expecting too much from their kids and let them explore & live a career they dream of. We were already financially struggling so much but these hardships had to end soon. The only solution I could see was to make consistent efforts towards my goals.

While searching for the top Hospitality and Tourism University, I was fascinated with the BHM Programme of Quantum University, Roorkee. I instantly decided to enroll in their Hospitality & Tourism programme. Making new friends in a new place is the coolest & happiest thing ever. My friends and faculty members encouraged me to discover myself, to be confident, and accomplish professionalism in the hospitality industry. We used to enjoy learning new skills, new recipes every day. We were always boosted to face the challenges in the future & were guided accordingly.

Undoubtedly, hospitality students succeed when they go into business. To polish up my skills I was advised by my mentors to do Entrepreneurship as a Minor through the university's Interdisciplinary Programs. Hotel management is a challenging field that needs harmonising activity in Front Office Operations, Food-Beverages production and distribution, and Accounting. I felt the urge to learn business skills after realising their importance in the industry. I got hands-on experience when I was appointed as the Junior Chef Trainee at the Oberoi hotels during my 6 months of internship. That journey was fruitful for me as I gained the ability to work under pressure & understood how a restaurant kitchen works. One of my biggest achievements was winning over my impatience via gaining listening and communication skills.

In order to be a great chef, Time, Patience, and Dedication are the three crucial part of the process that continues long after you graduate from culinary school. At Carlton City Hotel, I had a great working experience with multiple skills that I learned every day. Yes, Everyday! I was managing all the cooks who were under me, taking care of all the directions provided by the head chef. I collaborated with the rest of the culinary team to ensure high-quality food and service. Apart from this, I was ensuring the safety and sanitation practices, food, and service.

It has been six years now, my work has rewarded me with the position of Deputy Chef. As a team leader, I am managing the entire kitchen team, controlling the details of each dish prepared and handling the food lines. I have the second command after the Executive Chef. Presently, one of the proudest moments of my life is - training newly hired chefs and cooks.

"Success Begins with a Single Step." My dream to become the Best Corporate Chef is still under process & I will surely achieve it one day. My journey of hospitality has been full of challenges, endeavors, and patience, and I would like to give credit to my University for always showing utmost confidence in me to become what I aspire to. Indeed, Hotel Management along with a Minor in Entrepreneurship can hike up your career instantly, especially when enrolled in the right University. A Minor Degree is as mandatory as a Major Degree. I would suggest all my friends and those seeking a career in Hotel Management opt for a minor degree too - It will add stars to your Resume & Career ahead.
